Strong Women

What does it mean to you to be a strong woman?

I have been thinking a lot lately about gifts. I've been asking myself what MY gifts are and how I can use them to help gather Israel. I find myself deleting Instagram and feeling great about it but then, knowing there's so much good I can share, I inevitably download it again with the intent to focus only on sharing my love for my Savior and my family. Unfortunately, it doesn't take long for me to get trapped in the habit of comparing my life and situation to what I see online. Why can't I just stop?

"Too often, women compare themselves with others. But none of us feel good in those comparisons. Each woman has a unique blend of abilities and talents, and all have God-given gifts. Just because you and I are not the same--or any number of women aren't the same--doesn't make us any less or more. We need to discover our individual gifts and develop them, remembering who gave them to us, and then use them for His purposes. As we share our gifts to bless others, we are experiencing the power of the priesthood in our lives." (Jean Bingham, emphasis added)

Being strong means getting back up each time I fall so I can show my daughter that the effort is more important than perfection.

Being strong means I choose to see the strengths I have and ask the Lord how I can use them to bless others.

I can't help but think of the quote by Margaret Nadauld from her talk “The Joy of Womanhood.

"Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity.”

Those are the gifts I hope to engender and to teach my daughter are most important.
